(www.itar-tass.com) вЂ" Acting President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov is elected Turkmenistan's president. At a meeting of the Turkmen People's Council Chairman of the Turkmen Central Election Commission Murad Karryev announced the winner of the February 11 first democratic presidential elections for the whole history of Turkmenistan's independence.
According to the final returns announced by the Central Election Commission 89.23 percent of Turkmen citizens, who participated in the voting, voted for Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, reports Trend.
Gurbanguly Myalikkuliyevich Berdymukhammedov was born in 1957 in the village of Babarap, the Ashgabat region of Turkmenistan.
In 1979 he graduated from the dentistry faculty of the Turkmen State Medical Institute, and passed the post-graduate course in 1990.
Berdymukhammedov is a Candidate of Medical Sciences.
He began his career in 1979 as a dentist in the outpatient clinic in Ashgabat; 1980-1985 вЂ" a dentist in the rural outpatient clinic and the chief freelance dentist in the Ashgabat region; 1985-1987 вЂ" the chief of the dentistry department of the Central Regional Hospital in the Ashgabat region; 1990-1995 вЂ" an assistant of the chair of operative dentistry, associate professor and the dean of the dentistry faculty of the Turkmen State Medical Institute; 1995-1997 вЂ" the director of the stomatology center of the Turkmen Ministry of Health Care and Medical Industry.
1997-2006 вЂ" the Turkmen Minister of Health and Medical Industry.
1998-2006 вЂ" the general director of the Niyazov international medical center.
Since April 3, 2001 вЂ" the deputy prime minister of Turkmenistan.
