Uzbekistan more than doubles export of melons

Uzbekistan exported 52,100 tons of melons over the past nine months, which is almost three times more than in the same period last year (20,000 tons), Trend reports referring to the press service of the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The volume of melon exported from Uzbekistan for the reported period in value terms amounted to $20.3 million.

The largest buyers of this product were Kazakhstan (19,100 tons), Kyrgyzstan (17,000 tons) and Russia (6,200 tons).

Among the regions of Uzbekistan, the leaders of melon exports are Andijan (9,900 tons), Jizzakh (9,400 tons) and Fergana (6,200 tons) regions.

This year Uzbekistan began to supply melons and gourds to European countries.

The volume of melon produced in Uzbekistan for 9M2020 amounted to 1,399,100 tons (an increase of 4.2 percent compared to 9M2019). The total volume of melons production falls on the share of dekhkan (personal subsidiary) amounting to 64.1 percent.

Over the past nine months the physical volume of exported melons and watermelons amounted to 100,000 tons, while in value terms the volume of these products amounted to for $32 million.

The share of fruits and vegetables in total exports for 9M2020 amounted to 5.6 percent.

The main export markets for fruit and vegetable products are in Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.

The largest volume in value terms of exports of fruits and vegetables falls on Kazakhstan (28.2 percent of the total volume of fruits and vegetables), which exceeds the volume of exports to Afghanistan by 6.1 times.
