Transactions through POS terminals in Uzbekistan exceed $4B in 1Q2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. The total value of payments through POS terminals in Uzbekistan from January through March 2023 amounted to 52.9 trillion soums ($4.6 billion), increasing by 65.06 percent year-on-year, Trend reports via the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).

CBU noted that in the reporting period, POS terminals of the following banks carried out the most transactions: Aloqabank (11.6 trillion soums or $1.02 billion), Ipoteka-bank (4.1 trillion soums or $365.2 million), National bank (3.1 trillion soums or $276.7 million), Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank (2.46 trillion soums or $216.3million), as well as Kapitalbank (2.44 trillion soums or $214.4 million).

According to the bank, Uzbekistan’s Uzagroeksportbank recorded the lowest value of transactions through the POS terminal –1.4 billion soums or $125,795.

From January through February 2023, the total value of payments through POS terminals amounted to 34.2 trillion soums ($ 3.01 billion), increasing by 66.6 percent year-on-year (2M2022 –20.5 trillion soums or $1.8 billion).

Meanwhile, as of the beginning of April 2023, the number of POS terminals in Uzbekistan amounted to 428,754– a decrease of 4,179 terminals year-on-year (432,933, as of April 1, 2022).
