TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 1. The launch of 20 hydropower stations in planned in Uzbekistan by the end of 2023, Trend reports

The news followed a meeting between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and representatives of the country’s energy sector authorities.

The meeting reviewed the current status of projects in the field, as well as the tasks of preparing the energy system for the autumn-winter season in Uzbekistan.

During the talks, the administrations of the country’s regions presented information about the upcoming launch of 20 stations planned for the current year.

It was also noted that 38 hydropower plants are planned to be launched in 2024.

In addition, Uzbekistan’s Uzbekhydroenergo energy company plans to commission 7 large hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 197 MW. Due to this, electricity generation will be brought to 7 billion kWh.

According to the instruction of President Mirziyoyev, specialists have studied additional reserves in the amount of 1,000 MW. For example, by building cascades on the Naryn River, it is possible to reach a capacity of 230 MW and generate electricity sufficient for the needs of 450,000 residents of Namangan.

As per the president’s press service, hydroelectric power plants are the most effective means of normalizing the daily energy balance. The cost of electricity received at the HPP is much cheaper compared to other sources. Therefore, much attention is paid to the development of this direction.

Earlier this year, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan discussed the implementation of the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant project.

In the establishment of a joint venture among these countries, it is proposed that Kyrgyzstan will hold 34 percent of the shares, while Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will collectively own 66 percent, with 33 percent each.
