Whitefish bred for first time in Iran's Hormozgan province

Whitefish was bred for the first time in Iran's Hormozgan Province within the agricultural project, Abdurrasul Daryayi, Deputy Director of the Fishing Organization of Hormozgan Province, said.

Around 1.5 tons of whitefish were bred at two fish farms of Hajiabad region, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

"Whitefish is exported to Russia. Fish making caviar usually inhabit the waters of the Iranian provinces around the Caspian Sea," Daryayi added.

As a result of the efforts of the Fishing Organization of the Hormozgan Province, whitefish is being bred in the pools, he said.

Hormozgan province ranks first in breeding shrimps and aquarium fish in Iran. Presently, about 6,000 tons of aquarium fish and 15,000 tons of shrimps are bred.

During the eight months of this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018), approximately 36,000 tons of fish worth $88 million were exported through the customs of the Hormozgan province, which is 69 percent more compared to the same period of last Iranian year.
