Fishing products’ output expected to grow 15% in Iran

A 10-15 percent increase is expected in the output of fishing products in Iran this year (began March 21, 2019), said Deputy Director-General for Aquaculture of Iran’s Fishery Organization Hossein Abdollahi, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

Abdollahi said that 1.2 million tons of fishing products were produced last Iranian year (March 21, 2018-March 21, 2019).

Last year, the production of warmwater fish was about 200,000 tons, and coldwater fish - 170,000 tons, the deputy director-general added.

At the same time, 47,000 tons of shrimp, 2,800 tons of sturgeon and 241 million ornamental fish was produced last Iranian year, Abdollahi said.

The deputy director-general noted that Iran is considering increasing fish-breeding facilities in the Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf and Oman Gulf.

“The private sector has entered fish-breeding sector in sees and a major growth in this field is expected during the next two years, Abdollahi said.
