BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 23. Iran intends to increase oil production to 3 million barrels per day (b/d) by the end of September, Iran's Minister of Oil Javad Owji says, Trend reports.

"Currently, the volume of oil production in Iran is 3.2 million barrels per day, but by the end of September, we plan to reach the level of 3.4 million barrels," he stressed.

Sanctions were placed on Iran when the United States withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018, which prevented the eight biggest consumers of Iranian oil from purchasing energy products from the Islamic Republic. By 2021, Iran would only produce 2.4 million barrels per day of oil as a result.

According to the August report of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Iran increased production by 68,000 b/d, reaching a level of 2.828 million b/d.
