Shahram Jazayeri, Iranian businessman who was imprisoned for various charges, was released after eleven years in prison, Iran's Fars news agency reported Oct. 3.

Jazayeri was the central defendant in a major corruption case involving about 50 defendants, many of them sons of prominent Iranian officials.

Jazayeri was accused of earning his wealth through illegitimate ways, using fake documents and bribing.

Jazayeri was sentenced to prison in 2002, however in September 2004, his 27-year prison sentence was partially overturned.

In February 2007, Iran's Special Judicial Complex for economic affairs declared that Jazayeri has escaped, while being transferred to a court-assigned financial expert committee. However he was arrested after 25 days in Oman and handed over to Iranian authorities.
