The Georgian parliament endorsed dispatching a group of 11 artillery instructors to Afghanistan within the ongoing peacekeeping operations in the country.

The Georgian parliament endorsed dispatching a group of 11 artillery instructors to Afghanistan within the ongoing peacekeeping operations in the country.

Some 73 MPs votes for dispatching the group, and one against the decision.
The Georgian instructors will arrive in Afghanistan in addition to the 950 Georgian soldiers currently serving there. They will provide artillery training to the Afghan army. The group will serve under French command for five months.

A few hours before adopting the decision, the Georgian Defense Ministry reported the death of a Georgian soldier and the wounding of two corporals in a mine explosion in Afghanistan. Six Georgian soldiers have died so far in Afghanistan.
