Georgia can work with Russia "if we take the right steps," Georgian billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili said in an interview with Reuters on Monday.
Ivanishvili said he intends to resume a dialogue with Moscow if he wins the parliamentary elections of 2012.
"I would be able to find a compromise and achieve the role of a country friendly to the U.S. and Europe and acceptable to Russia," the businessman said.
He said the world will have to deal with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the coming years.
"Russian society and the Russian people like this person," he said. "It is their business and choice, although more a democratic Russia would be perhaps more interesting for the U.S. and Europe."
