Georgian Defense Minister Dmitri Shashkin and Navy Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery, United States European Command's Deputy Director for Plans, Policy and Strategy discussed issues of implementation of an agreement on defense cooperation in Tbilisi on Thursday, which was reached between the presidents of Georgia and United States.
Earlier this year, U.S. President Barack Obama at a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili agreed on a new program of assistance to Georgia. Under this agreement, high-ranking officials of the U.S. Department of Defense frequently visit Tbilisi, who define the possible directions of this assistance.
