Tbilisi City Court has once again chosen on Thursday as a precautionary measure two-month sentence for former Prime Minister of Georgia, secretary general of the party "United National Movement" Vano Merabishvili. The preventive measure was chosen in the case of dispersal of opposition rally two years ago.

On 28 May, Merabishvili have been charged with abuse of authority under aggravating circumstances (article 333 of the Criminal Code of the Georgia) in the case of dispersal of the rally organization by "People's Assembly" on May 26, 2011.

Protest of "People's Assembly" led by ex-parliamentary speaker Nino Burjanadze, was dispersed using water cannons, tear gas, rubber bullets and batons. Special forces operation began after the expiry of the application for the rally, which was held in Tbilisi within five days, demanding the resignation of President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Lawyers were against a preventive measure against Merabishvili, because he has a pre-trial detention on charges of corruption.
