The Georgian authorities have no illusions that Russia will slow down its activities aimed at recognition of breakaway regions, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani told journalists.

He commented on a statement made by the leader of the separatist regime Tskhinvali Leonid Tibilov about the active work carried out on continuing the recognition of the occupied region by the rest of the world. Meanwhile, the deputy foreign minister noted that possibly, one of these countries will be Belarus.

"All this time, Russia quite actively attempted and continues its attempts to achieve support of various countries. We have no illusions that the Russian Federation will slow down its attempts in this direction, but we will utilise international law and the support we have in the international arena against it," Zalkaliani stated.

On August 26, Abkhazia and South Ossetia celebrate the day of recognition of their independence by Russia.
