New sewing enterprise established in Georgia’s Adjara

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 28

A new sewing company was established in the municipality of Khulo (Adjara), Trend reports with reference to the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture.

It is reported that 27,680 lari ($8,970) were allocated for the construction of a sewing factory and another 34,600 ($11,125) were invested by the private company.

It is reported that the development program is implemented in the municipalities of Keda and Khulo (Adjara), Borjomi and Akhalkalaki (Samtskhe-Javakheti), Tetritskaro (Kleveo Kartli), Kazbegi (Mtzheta-Mthianeti), Lagoduekhi and Dedopliskaro (Kakheti).

The new enterprise was observed by Deputy Director of the Development Agency Georgy Dzhibladze, manager of the Program Ketevan Huzishvili, Acting Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Anna Chernyshova.

"Another new enterprise was financed as part of the Development Program. The purpose of this program is to support the development of non-agricultural activities in rural areas. Co-financing more than 30 projects amounts to 3.7 million lari ($1.2 million), and the total cost of investment exceeds 5.5 million lari ($1.8 million)," Deputy Director of the Development Agency Georgy Dzhibladze said.

According to Chernyshova, Georgian government has developed an alternative path of development of rural areas, which is based on the diversification of the rural economy and a sustainable business model.

"Today, when the Adjara economy comes out of the crisis caused by coronavirus, this unique region has a good opportunity to introduce this new approach," Chernyshova said.
