Georgian banks increase loan portfolio

The total number of loans of commercial banks in Georgia has increased and the loan portfolio amounted to almost 40 billion Georgian lari ($12.6 billion), Trend reports via Georgian media.

The annual growth rate of the loan portfolio issued by commercial banks was 16.5 percent. Even without the exchange rate effect, the annual loans growth was 14.2 percent. Long-term loans amounted to 89.1 percent of the loan portfolio, of which 53.2 percent were issued in foreign currency. The share of foreign currency loans in short-term loans was 40.6 percent.

The growth of loans of the small banks was observed the most. However, the share of the 5 smallest banks in the total loan portfolio is only 829 million Georgian lari ($263.1 million), which is 2.1 percent.

The rating of small banks by total loans and their growth in the second quarter of 2021:

Silk Road Bank – 12.4 million Georgian lari ($3.9 million), compared to 13.9 million Georgian lari ($4.4 million) in 2020 (10.7 percent decrease).

Ziraat Bank Georgia – 76.7 million Georgian lari ($24.3 million), compared to 50.3 million Georgian lari ($15.9 million) in 2020 (52.3 percent increase).

FINCA Bank Georgia – 223.7 million Georgian lari ($71 million), compared to 191.5 million Georgian lari ($60.7 million) in 2020 (16.8 percent increase).

Isbank Georgia – 227.5 million Georgian lari ($72.2 million), compared to 197.9 million Georgian lari ($62.8 million) in 2020 (14.9 percent increase).

Pasha Bank Georgia – 288.1 million Georgian lari ($91.4 million), compared to 304.7 million Georgian lari ($96.7 million) in 2020 (5.5 percent decrease).

TBC Capital expects loans to increase by 18 percent, or even more, which is still less than the projected increase in nominal GDP of 21.2 percent in 2021.
