NATO destroys "missile firing" site hidden in Libyan farm building

NATO on Saturday said it had destroyed a site used by Libyan forces to launch missiles hidden in a set of farm buildings south of the city of Misurata, dpa reported.

The military alliance had surveyed the buildings for a "period of time" before "it was confirmed as being used to launch indiscriminate attacks on Libyan civilians in the area, including the port and city of Misurata," it said.

Misurata is under rebel control but is under siege by Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi's forces.

"The loss of this facility to pro-Gaddafi forces will reduce the pressure on Misurata and provide further protection to the civilian population in this area," said Canadian Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard.
