At least two armed tribesmen were killed and 11 others were injured on Saturday evening in fresh clashes with troops of the Republican Guards in Yemen's southern restive province of Taiz, witnesses told Xinhua.
They said that fierce clashes erupted between armed tribesmen supported by army dissidents and Republican Guard forces in al- Rawda area of Taiz city, leaving two tribesmen killed and 11 others injured.
Random shelling by the Republican Guards was still going on and targeting a number of neighborhoods where army dissidents and tribesmen stationed, according to local residents.
A number of residential buildings near the fighting area were completely destroyed during the indiscriminate shelling.
A local resident told Xinhua that huge explosions were heard across the downtown of Taiz city as many residents fled to the rural areas.
Despite a fragile ceasefire mediated by local councilmen and tribal dignitaries, the city still witnesses almost daily clashes between the government forces and armed tribesmen since last month, leaving at least dozens of people killed.
