Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah was in talks with President Mahmoud Abbas over the reasons for his resignation, a government spokesman told dpa Friday.
"The president did not accept the resignation and therefore the prime minister remains on top of his duty until a decision is made," Ehab Bseiso said.
Hamdallah gave Abbas notice after just 18 days in office on Thursday, citing "infringement on his authority" by his two deputies and close associates of the president.
The two discussed the issues in a two-hour meeting and agreed to continue talks on Saturday, Bseiso said.
