( dpa ) - China reported Sunday that 94 people were injured in last week's riot in western Gannan Tibetan prefecture of Gansu province.

The injured were all police, government officials and only one civilian, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Since the protests by Tibetans in China and other countries began March 10, marches, beating, smashing, looting and arson occurred in the counties of Xiahe, Maqu, Luqu and Jone and Hezuo City in Gannan and Aba county of Sichuan province.

A Tibetan exile group earlier said troops had shot dead at least 39 people in just Aba prefecture.

Social order in Gannan has returned to normal since the March 14-19 riot according to Xinhua, which also reported there has been no fresh unrest since March 20.

The protests mark the 49th anniversary of a failed uprising in Tibet against Chinese rule.
