CSTO to discuss creation of Collective Rapid Deployment Forces

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will continue discussing the creation of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces, Andrei Nesterenko, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced after a meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, Defense Ministers and the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the member-states on February 4, BelTA reports.

This meeting was held prior to the extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council on February 4.

According to Andrei Nesterenko, the issue of the CSTO Collective Rapid Deployment Forces need to be "revisited as one of the delegations expressed a special opinion on this issue."

The Foreign Ministers of the CSTO member states signed the documents that would be discussed at s session of the CSTO Collective Security Council. "The documents contain several clauses, in particular, on the 2009 budget and the election of a new CSTO Secretary," Andrei Nesterenko said. According to him, the parties decided that CSTO Secretary Nikolai Borduzha would continue serving on the post.

Head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Edward Nalbandian said that in general the meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers was quite fruitful. He hopes that the parties will move to a new level of cooperation.
