Turkish Security Forces have seized 107.8 kg of heroin in an operation in the southeastern province of Gaziantep, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, the security forces on Thursday stopped a truck travelling from the eastern province of Van to Gaziantep, and found 107.8 kg of heroin separated into 214 packages hidden in secret compartments of the truck, said the report.

During the operation, two people were detained in connection with the illegal drug trafficking, it added.

Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in western Europe, Xinhua reported.
