Japanese Nissan to produce new car model in Turkey

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend: Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan intends to start production of new car models in Turkey, Chairman and CEO of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn said, Turkish newspaper Zaman reported on Nov. 11.

According to Ghosn, Turkey is an ideal market for the production and sale of cars.

Ghosn also said the company plans to produce cars in the Turkish province of Bursa.

Previously it was reported that the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda also plans to produce a new car model in Turkey the cost of which in the domestic market will be around 80,900 Turkish liras (nearly $39,735).

The Japanese company Mitsubishi is interested in building an enterprise in Turkey to produce cars.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe for the production of cars. The country produces or assembles Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN brand cars.

Furthermore, Turkey produces such domestic buses as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.

The number of vehicles operating in the country reached 17,653,281, Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) said.

According to the report, some 51.4 per cent of vehicles are cars, 16.4 per cent - trucks, 15.3 per cent - motorcycles, 8.7 per cent - tractors, 1.4 per cent - buses and 6.8 per cent different vehicles.

The report also said that some 41.5 per cent of cars use liquefied gas as fuel, 31.9 per cent use petrol and 26.1 per cent use diesel fuel.

Official rate for Nov. 11 is 2.0265 TRY/USD.
