A car bomb exploded at a police station in the Turkish south-eastern province of Mardin, the Sabah newspaper reported June 8.

Reportedly, there are casualties, but their number has not been specified.

Firefighters and ambulance cars have arrived at the scene, the newspaper reported.

According to the preliminary reports, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist group carried out the attack.

A large-scale operation against the PKK began in the province following the incident, read the newspaper.

The car bomb explosion in Mardin province comes in the wake of a major blast in Turkey's Istanbul.

A police car was blown up in Istanbul June 7. Twelve people were killed and 35 were injured as a result of the explosion.
