Turkey to commission another high-speed railway until 2023 (Exclusive)

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 10

A high-speed railway to connect Ankara with Afyonkarahisar and Eskisehir provinces in Turkey will be commissioned in late 2022, the country’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

According to the ministry, the construction of the 152-km railway began in 2007.

"The total cost of the project is 1.8 million Turkish liras ($130 million). In the late 2021, spending on it made up 100 million Turkish liras ($7.25 million), and in 2020 1.6 billion Turkish liras ($120 million)," said the ministry.

Another high-speed railway connecting Afyonkarahisar and Izmir provinces in Turkey will be commissioned in 2023.

Overall, in 2021, over 42.4 billion liras ($3 billion) were allocated for the implementation of transport and infrastructure projects in Turkey, nearly 6 billion liras ($430 million) of which were attracted via foreign loans.

In 2020, 282.7 billion liras ($20.49 billion) were allocated for the implementation of transport and infrastructure projects in Turkey.
