( Cihan )The Turkish General Staff published a statement on its official web site regarding the latest terrorist activities in Turkey. The General Staff statement called on the Turkish nation to demonstrate a mass opposition reflex against terrorism.

The statement warned that "it was high time that the people and organizations using democracy and peace as a cover for terrorist organization, realize the true face of these organizations and the intentions behind the ongoing terrorist activities."

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) were, according to the statement, determined to counter terrorism and respond adequately to any attacks of this nature.

The statement came after an increase in terrorist activities all over the country triggered by the massive operations which the TSK initiated in southeastern Turkey, involving about 50,000 troops and backed by armored vehicles and combat aircraft.

The operation is targeting the PKK terrorists in 11 provinces in southeastern Turkey, namely Mardin, Sirnak, Siirt, Diyarbakir, Tunceli, Bitlis, Bingol, Agri, Hakkari, Van and Mus and dozens of PKK hideouts have been destroyed.

Military deployment still continues to these areas near the Iraqi border.
