International Cotton Fair to take place in Uzbekistan in October

Annual International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair is scheduled to be held on October 16-17, 2013 in Tashkent, the organizing committee of the fair told Trend.

During the fair, which will be held for 9th time this year, its participants will have an opportunity to conclude contracts on Uzbek cotton supply, for development of long-term cooperation in cotton trade, and become familiar with its quality indicators and latest innovations in the spheres of production, trade and logistics.

During the fair, round-tables and bilateral negotiations between exporters and consumers of Uzbek cotton will be organized.

The guests of the Cotton Fair will have an opportunity to participate in the cotton trading session on Uzbek commodity exchange on sale of cotton.

In the framework of the fair, it is planned to hold conference, where it is scheduled to discuss current problems and prospects of World Cotton Fair development.

In particular, the conference participants, including leading international experts in the sphere of world cotton and textile industry, will discuss the issues of supply and demand, prices and factors influencing in world cotton fair, the state and prospects of production and marketing of cotton in Uzbekistan, new production technologies of competitive cotton, the investment climate and participation of foreign investors in the development of cotton and textile industry in Uzbekistan.

The fair is held in Uzbekistan annually since 2005. It is organized by Uzbekistan government with the support of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).

At the fairs Uzbekistan signed a total of export contracts in the volume of around 5.2 million tons of cotton.

As reported, during XII Cotton Fair, held in 2012, the contracts were concluded on purchase of more than 670,000 tons of Uzbek cotton, the volume of concluded contracts on purchase of cotton in comparison with the previous year has increased by 11.7 percent.

The contracts on export of Uzbekistan's textile enterprise products were concluded in the sum more than $600 million (growth by 9.1 percent).

In total some 150 contracts between 12 foreign and 6 republican companies were concluded during the fair. Companies from Bangladesh, China, and South Korea have become the main buyers of Uzbek cotton.

Uzbekistan holds the 6th place in the world for production of cotton fibre, and on the second for its export.

Annually Uzbekistan produces around 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tons of cotton fibre.

Over 95 percent of these productions account for medium fibre bred varieties with the fibre length of 32-33 millimetres, and the rest account for long-fibre bred varieties (36-39 millimetres).
