The Tbilisi City Court sentenced famous football player, former national team player of Georgia Giorgi Demetradze, who was accused of involvement in the 'thieves' traditions," to two months imprisonment.

The court refused to Demetradze's lawyer to release his client in return for a pledge worth 10,000 lari (1.8440 is $1).

Demetradze did not plead guilty, stating that he did not understand why the police detained him.

The court also sentenced Demetradze's friends David Gagnidze and a former police colonel Kakha Misireli to two months imprisonment.  Vato Kipiani, who is in Ukraine, was sentenced to absentia two months.

The defendants were extremely surprised and called the incident stupidity. According to lawyer, the accused did not give evidence. The detainees were transferred to the Gldani prison No.8.

Demetradze, Gagnidze and Misireli were detained at a time when they received money from an unidentified citizen who won $140,000 in illegal bets on World Cup. The investigation alleges that all three arrested. Former "thief in law" Vakhtang Kipiani acts in the case. He called his colleagues in Tbilisi from Ukraine and ordered them to withdraw the money for thieves.
