Azerbaijan's court dismisses newspaper's appeal against Press Council

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 31 / Trend /

Nasimi district court of Baku dismissed Tazadlar (Contradictions) newspaper's appeal against the Press Council, the Press Council reported.

The court presided by judge Ikram Shirinov decided unreasonable the newspaper's appeal on canceling Press Council's decision about that edition, request for apology to Tazadlar and a 50,000 manat fine.

Tazadlar applied the court to send the case to Baku local economy court 1, whilst the court didn't provide that application, Press Council's representative and law-defender, Shamsaddin Aliyev, said. The law-defender attributed this step as a will to delay the trial.

The complaints commission of the Azerbaijan Press Council discussed the statement of Tazadlar about Turkish ambassador Hulusi Kilic based on the embassy's application in September 2009. The commission decided that the statement was improper. Regarding that decision and other complaints on the newspaper, the Council included the newspaper into the black list Oct.22, 2009.
