Around 52 people sentenced in Azerbaijan for drugs are foreigners. Around 406 kilogrammes (40 per cent) of the various drugs were seized from 31 Iranians, 14 Russian citizens, nine Georgian citizens and four Afghans.
Around 2139 criminal cases of illegal drug trafficking were revealed in Azerbaijan over nine months of this year. Around 1707 people were sentenced, a working group of the State Commission on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs said today.
More than one ton 20 kilogrammes of various drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors were seized. Around 477 kilogrammes (46.16 per cent) of hashish was confiscated.
Around 325 tons of plants containing narcotic substances were destroyed within the comprehensive measures undertaken in the Republic under the code name 'Hush-Hush 2012'.
More than one ton 178 kilograms of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors were confiscated by the court's decision for the nine months.
The number of drug addicts, registered in Azerbaijan, is 26,716.
