BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 31. Work will be carried out to separate the "green" and "red" metro lines at the 28 May station, as outlined in the "State Program for Improving the Transport Infrastructure of Baku and Adjacent Territories for 2025-2030," approved by President Ilham Aliyev, Trend reports.
The program specifies that the Unified Portal of Electronic Services, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, State Committee for Architecture and Urban Development, Baku City Executive Authority, Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON), and Baku Metropolitan are tasked with ensuring the successful implementation of construction and installation works for the separation of the lines. These efforts are set to be completed and commissioned between 2025 and 2026.
The Baku Metro commenced operations on November 6, 1967. The current infrastructure comprises 40.7 kilometers (25.3 miles) of bidirectional tracks, organized into three lines and serviced by 27 stations. The "conceptual development scheme of the Baku Metro lines" outlines a future underground network comprising five lines. This includes the three current lines (Red, Green, and Purple) along with two new lines (Blue and Yellow). The network will feature a total of 76 stations, six power plants, and an overall length of 119.1 km. A total of 51 new stations are set to be developed, contributing to an underground line that spans 84.3 kilometers in the Baku Metro system.
