Azerbaijan cuts food imports

Azerbaijan imported more than 1.2 billion tons of food products from January through September 2021, which is 17.2 percent less compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing the bulletin of the State Customs Committee (SCC).

According to the Committee, imports of products in value terms increased by 14.7 percent, or $173.4 million - to about $1.17 billion.

Azerbaijan imported over 28,100 tons of meat worth $48,093, 7,044 tons of milk ($9,791), 11,237 tons of dairy products ($57,500), 262,000 tons of vegetables and fruits ($150.1 million), about 11,000 tons of tea (over $47,000).

In addition, over 760 million tons of wheat, barley, corn, and rice worth over $221.2 million were imported.

Imports of vegetable fats and oils amounted to 111.1 million tons, the value of which made up more than $155.5 million.

Imports of pharmaceutical products decreased in terms of volume by 3.5 percent, or 588 tons - to 16,348 tons, and in value terms - by 34.7 percent, or $144.6 million - to over $415 million.
