BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 24

By Khagan Isayev – Trend:

The first exploration well with a depth of about 2,300 meters in Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula (SWAP) has already been drilled, bp told Trend on Nov. 24.

"Drilling is proceeding as planned. Drilling of this well was commenced in the promising North Khali area on August 16, 2021. As soon as the well reaches design depth, the data will be analyzed. If successful, an assessment program can be implemented to confirm the results," bp said.

The SWAP contract area includes three prospective areas. A total of three exploration wells are planned to be drilled, including NKX01 exploration well in the North-East prospect, QBDX01 exploration well in the South-East prospect, and BHEX01 exploration well in the Western prospect.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and bp on December 22, 2014, signed a production sharing agreement on joint exploration and development of potential fields in SWAP. The contract was ratified by the Azerbaijani parliament on April 14, 2015.
