About 20 refrigerated warehouses are being built in the East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) with an investment of 2 trillion rials (about $47.6 million), Deputy Director of Agriculture Department of East Azerbaijan Province Ayaz Berno told IRNA, Trend reports.
The deputy director said that the construction of these warehouses has been completed by 60 percent.
He added that with the commissioning of the warehouses, the number of refrigerated warehouses in the East Azerbaijan Province will reach 135, and their capacity will increase by 100,000 tons.
Berno noted that the number of refrigerated warehouses in the East Azerbaijan Province reached 115 units in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), and more than 10 trillion rials (about $238 million) was spent on the construction of these warehouses.
"With the commissioning of refrigerated warehouses in the East Azerbaijan Province, 4,000 people have been employed so far," he said.
Berno emphasized that there are no refrigerated warehouses in some counties of the province, including Khoda Afarin, Varzaqan, Kaleybar and Jolfa, and efforts are being made to build a refrigerated warehouse in Jolfa county in the near future.
