Iranian is planning to launch air taxis to reduce overall transportation costs, Member of Iran's General Aviation Development Committee Arman Bayat told Trend in an interview.
"Iran's Civil Aviation Organization has planned to establish the necessary infrastructure for launching air taxis, the private sector is handling it," he said.
"The government would participate in a trial phase of the project, to estimate risks and possible damages, and solve the problems immediately, prepare the ground for the private sector to take over, with less challenges," he said.
"Air taxis are part of small commercial aircrafts which make short flights on demand, air taxi business is small and have low cost that could start with low capital resources compare to big commercial airlines," he said.
"Private sector has requested for launch of air taxi in Bandar Abbas, Lamerd, Lar and Kermanshah airports. The applicant in Lamerd has already purchased aircrafts and is ready to launch its business," said Bayat.
He added that the private company in Lamerd has invested some $300,000 for the purchase of aircrafts," he said.
