French ambassador: Kazakhstan ideally suited to host XXII World Petroleum Congress

For several reasons Kazakhstan is ideally suited to hosting the XXII World Petroleum Congress, according to the Ambassador of France to Kazakhstan , Jean-Charles Berthonnet.
"Entering rivalry with the USA (Houston), Turkey (Istanbul) and Denmark (Copenhagen), Kazakhstan is ideally placed to host the XXII World Petroleum Congress for several reasons. Firstly, Kazakhstan has never hosted this forum before," Jean-Charles Berthonnet told Trend.
The ambassador reflected that the U.S has twice hosted a petroleum forum, in New York in 1959 and Houston in 1987.
"Turkey and Denmark also have never hosted this forum, but Kazakhstan is a global oil power compared to these counties," French diplomat noted.
Jean-Charles Berthonnet also said that as of 2012, Kazakhstan has become the 18th oil producer in the world today (1605 900 barrels per day) and is in 11th place possessing two per cent of world oil reserves and in 14th place for gas reserves (1.3 per cent).
"After launching production in the Kashagan fieid in the next 10 years, Kazakhstan will enter the top 10 leading producers," he added.
According to the ambassador, the simultaneous holding of a 2017 exhibition under the slogan 'Energy of the future and the World Petroleum Congress would completely fit into the process of energy transition. Kazakhstan joins this process by increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 10 per cent in 2030, compared to the current 0.5 per cent, thus combining traditional and new methods of energy production.
"By the way, the fact that the EXPO-2017 exhibition centre will host the World Petroleum Congress, is symbolic for combining two types of energy namely 'new' and 'traditional'," Jean-Charles Berthonnet summarised.
As was reported earlier, the Kazakh government adopted a decision about the joint holding of the XXII World Petroleum Congress and the international specialised exhibition, EXPO-2017 which starts in July, 2017 in Astana.
