Kazakhstan eyeing construction of several new renewable energy sources in 2021

A total of 25 renewable energy projects were commissioned in Kazakhstan in 2020 the overall capacity of which was 583 MW, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Nurlan Nоgayev said, Trend reports citing the press office of the government.

The minister said that the volume of electricity generated using renewable energy sources amounted to 3.15 billion kWh in 2020, which meets the plan for the year.

In turn, of the total number of renewable energy projects launched in Kazakhstan in 2020, 10 projects accounted for wind energy, 12 for solar energy, 1 for hydropower, 2 for bioenergy.

The value of investments to the energy sector as result of the projects implementation amounted to $1.5 billion, some 3,000 temporary and 1,310 full time jobs were created.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry is planning to oversee construction of 23 more renewable energy sources in 2021. The overall capacity of the future plants is to be 391 MW and the investments value will be $370 million.
