Uzbekistan’s population increases purchases of new cars

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 16

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan’s population demand in the car market in January 2021 increased by 5.3 percent compared to January 2020, Trend reports with reference to the Center for Economic Research and Reforms in Uzbekistan (CERR).

According to the information, the dynamics of sales in the car market are cyclical, which is largely due to many factors such as a decrease in car supply or in remittances.

The CERR noted that usually, every year in January, the sale and purchase of cars is reduced by an average of 16-19 percent compared to December of the previous year. Thus, the growth in car sales in January is 5-6 percent, which is on average lower than in other months.

In the structure of regions, the highest growth rates in January 2021 were observed in Samarkand and Surkhandarya regions.

The analysis also showed that an increase in the population of the regions by one percent leads to an increase in car sales by 1.1 percent.

The CERR also reports that usually, the monthly growth in car sales in the primary and secondary markets in Uzbekistan is on average 2-3 percent.

As a result of the introduction of strict quarantine measures from mid-March 2020, the number of registered and re-registered cars in March decreased by 17.3 percent compared to the same period in 2019, and in April - by 73.8 percent.

Since May, the situation in Uzbekistan’s car market has begun to recover again. In particular, in June, car sales increased by 14.8 percent compared to the same period in 2019. In August, this figure amounted to 3.8 percent.

The demand in the car market from September through October also continued to grow. Compared to the corresponding period of 2019, sales increased in September by 29.5 percent, in October - by 19.2 percent, in November - by nine percent, and in December - by 10 percent.
