Volume of loaded/unloaded cargo in Iran’s Anzali and Astara ports up

The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded in the Anzali and Astara ports of the Gilan Province (northern Iran) increased by 3 percent and 10 percent, respectively, during the first five months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through August 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Mohammad Mohsen Salimipour, Deputy Director for Department of Port and Maritime Organization (PMO) in Gilan province, Trend reports citing the PMO’s website.

Salimipour stressed that a total of 771,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the two ports over the reporting period. Of this, 677,000 tons were moved to Anzali port and 94,000 tons to Astara port.

“The volume of goods exported from the Anzali port for the 5 months increased by 91 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year and amounted to 153,000 tons. The main exported goods were construction materials, chemicals, fabrics, minerals, which were mainly exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan,” he said.

The deputy noted that at the same time, about 515,000 tons of goods were imported through the Anzali port in the 5 months. Of these, 363,000 tons were essential products, 42,000 tons - cooking oil, while 95,000 tons - wood and timber.

According to Salimipour, the number of TEU containers loaded and unloaded in Anzali and Astara ports within the 5 months amounted to 2,770, which is 14 percent more than in the same period last Iranian year.

The deputy director added that in total, 301 ships docked at the Anzali and Astara ports during the first 5 months of the current Iranian year.
