Azerbaijan’s cargo transportation by all types of transport decreases in 9M2021

Cargo transportation by all types of transport in Azerbaijan from January through September 2021 amounted to 140.3 million tons, which is 0.2 percent less than the same period last year, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

According to the committee, at the same time, 57.3 percent of all cargo was transported by road, by pipeline - 31.7 percent, by rail - 7.8 percent, by sea - 2.9 percent, by air - 0.3 percent.

During the reporting period, cargo transportation in the private sector decreased by 1.2 percent compared to 9M2020, amounting to 78 percent of all cargo transportation.

In addition, passenger traffic by all types of transport in Azerbaijan in 9M2021 amounted to 838.9 million people, which is 10 percent less than in the same period last year. Most of the passengers (95.1 percent) were transported by road, 4.6 percent - by subway, 0.3 percent - by other means of transport.

It is noted that railway transport transported 11 million tons of cargo in 9M2021 (an increase of 5.6 percent on an annualized basis), as well as 1.763 million passengers, which is 1.4 percent more than a year earlier.

Almost 4.075 million tons of cargo were transported by sea during the reporting period, which is 6.9 percent less than in the same period last year. The share of oil in the total transportation of goods amounted to 35.4 percent.

The volume of cargo transshipped by the ports of Azerbaijan in 9M2021 exceeded 6.596 million tons, of which 95.4 percent or 6.29 million tons were transit cargo. As of October 1, the volume of the remaining cargo in the ports amounted to 174,500 tons.

Moreover, 80.4 million tons of cargo were transported by road in 9M2021, which is 3.1 percent less than in 2020. It is noted that 797.4 million people were transported by this type of transport (a decrease of 7.3 percent).

Also, 795,300 passengers were transported by air during the period under review, which is 52.2 percent more than in the same period last year. Cargo transportation by air for 9M2021 increased by 12.5 percent, reaching 355,300 tons.
