Tajikistan records notable increase in vehicle numbers over decade

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 24. Tajikistan has witnessed a significant rise in the number of registered vehicles in recent years, Trend reports.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan, while the country had 38,939 vehicles of all types in 2014, the current figure exceeds 601,136.

"As of January 1, 2023, there were 51,781 registered cargo trucks, 16,491 passenger cars, 524,045 passenger cars, as well as 4,419 trailers and semi-trailers in the country," the ministry said.

However, there has been a notable decrease in the number of motorcycle users in the country. For instance, in 2014, there were 6,221 motorcycle owners, but as of the beginning of 2023, the number had dropped to 3,726.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan has prohibited the import of vehicles manufactured before 2005 since February 15, 2018. The Customs Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan control the customs clearance and registration of imported vehicles.

Tajikistan plans to put into operation 317 kilometers of international highways, 32 bridges, and 5 tunnels with a length of 11.2 kilometers in the next three years.
