Violation of norms of Georgia's state language will entail administrative liability of officials and media outlets.

Changes were made to the law 'On the State Language' as well as to the Code of Administrative Offences of Georgia.

According to the code, the failure of an official to accept a statement or a written document, showing the lack of knowledge of the state language as a reason, will lead to the imposition of a fine on that official in amount from 200 to 500 Georgian laris. In case of a repetition of this action, the fine will increase from 500 to 1,500 laris.

Also limiting or discrediting the right to choose education in accordance with language will also provide administrative liability.

This action on the part of an individual entails a fine of 200 to 500 laris, and for legal entities - from 500 to 1,500 laris.

In case of repetition of this action the individual will be fined in the amount of 500 to 1,500 laris and legal entities - up to 3,000 laris.

In accordance with the changes, the administrative liability for the violation of the norms of Georgian standard language will also cover the media outlets.

In first violation case the fine will be 1,000-5,000 laris, and in case of repetition - up to 10,000 laris.
