An Iranian civil aviation official has said that soon British Airways will start direct flights to Tehran.

"British Airways is to resume direct flights to Tehran in two months," Iranian Roads & Urban Development Ministry's official website quoted Mohammad Khodakarami, deputy head of Iran Civil Aviation Organization, as saying Jan. 27.

British Airways suspended flights to Tehran on Oct. 13, 2012 due to international sanctions on Iran.

In 2010, Iran stopped refueling British Midland Airways, which is affiliated to the British Airways flights at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport, in retaliation for the refusal of Western oil companies to refuel Iranian flag carriers at several European airports, including London's Heathrow.

Khodakarami said that representatives of British Airways traveled to Tehran on Jan. 26 and announced that the company is ready to resume direct flights to Tehran in two months.

He added that France's Air France and the Netherlands' KLM have also requested resuming direct flights with Iran.

Currently, the direct flights between Iran and the UK are carried out by Iran's Homa airline.
