Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland intends to meet with Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili in the near future.

Jagland expects to discuss topical issues for both Georgia and the Council of Europe during the meeting. This has been stated in the letter of Jagland to Ivanishvili.

'I look forward to seeing you in the near future to review the tasks and challenges facing Georgia and the Council of Europe. I believe that Georgia under the auspices of the mission of the Council of Europe will continue to contribute to the consolidation of democracy, the protection of the rule of law and human rights in Europe', a congratulatory letter on the appointment of the Prime Minister Ivanishvili said.

The CE Secretary General described the parliamentary elections in October as "competitive" and "transparent."

"Georgia has set an example of democratic reforms," Jagland said.

The Georgian Dream coalition, led by Bidzina Ivanishvili won according to the results of the parliamentary elections in Georgia, which was held on October 1.

Georgia is a member of the Council of Europe since 1999.
