Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Agayeva / The Council of Europe (CE) suggested to Azerbaijan an election system which would be supported by all levels of the population, the CE Secretary General's special representative in Azerbaijan Denis Bribosia said to journalists on 6 November.
"We do not give preference to any format of election system, but support such a scheme to satisfy all political parties and movements," he said. According to Bribosia, the CE will give the opportunity to the authorities and political parties to freely express their positions during a meeting with members of the CE Venice Commission to take place in Baku on 9 November.
"The CE expects the presidential elections to take place in Azerbaijan in 2008 to be held in free and democratic conditions," he said.
