Azerbaijan’s volume of non-cash payments continues to grow

The number of payment cards in circulation in the banking system of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) by end of September 2021 increased by 173,000 compared to the previous month and amounted to 10,429,000, Trend reports with reference to the review of the monetary policy of the CBA, at the end of September 2021.

According to the information, this indicator increased by 16.3 percent compared to the same period last year. The increase in payment cards amounted to 15.4 percent for debit cards and 23.3 percent for credit cards. The increase in the number of salary cards compared to the same period last year, amounted to 133,000, credit cards – 246,000.

It is noted that the increase in the number of payment cards had a positive impact on the volume of non-cash payments. Thus, the volume of non-cash transactions in the country increased by 67 percent compared to 9M2020. The volume of non-cash payments by cards in 9M2021 amounted to 7.218 billion manats ($4.2 billion). The share of e-commerce of committed non-cash payments accounts for 3.988 million manats ($2.3 billion).

Also, 2.771 billion manats ($1.6) of non-cash payments were made through POS-terminals, and payments worth 455 million manats ($268 million) were realized through ATMs.
