BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Auto imports are 31 percent down in Georgia, while exports – by 37 percent as of 9M2020, Trend reports via Georgian media.
The main export markets for Georgia were neighboring and regional countries until this year. In 2020, Armenia has left the list due to the high tariffs imposed by the Eurasian Economic Union on the neighboring country.
However, Caucasus Autoimport says that it has not been a surprise for their business. According to the company, despite the pandemic, demand for used cars is not decreased, but supply is reduced, which resulted in price growth on cars at the auctions.
“Demand is slightly decreased in Georgia, but it really does not amount to 30 percent,” said Davit Gulashvili, executive director of Caucasus Autoimport.
According to Gulashvili, new export markets have appeared, including Moldova, Iraq, which have not been on the list earlier, and now, cars are actively exported to these countries.
“If growth on these markets continues, we should assume that the sector will return to pre-pandemic level soon,” Gulashvili declares.
