( Worldcarfans ) - Based on new VE Commodore

Today Holden has released the much anticipated Holden VE Ute range, consisting of the VE Omega, SV6, SS and SS V models. The VE Ute shares most of its genetic make-up with the Holden VE Commodore, Holden's current best seller car which is on the verge of going global through the Vauxhall VXR8 in the UK and Pontiac G8 in the US. The VE Ute will be built locally and prices start at AUD 30,990 for the Omega base model.

The Omega comes with a 3.6 liter V6 Alloytec engine producing 180kW (241 hp) and 330 Nm torque in combination with a four-speed automatic or the 3.6 liter V6 High Output Alloytec engine putting out 195 kW (261 hp) and 340 Nm torque with a six-speed manual transmission. The SV6 is powered by the same High Output Alloytec V6 but also features a sports suspenion amongst others.

The SS and SS V models are powered by GM's new Gen IV 6.0 liter V8, good for 270 kW (362 hp) and 530 Nm of peak torque, where the SS V builds on the SS but adds a range of features like 19 inch wheels and a 150 Watt sound system.

Mr Gubbey, GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director: "The ute's development tells the story of Australia. Today's ute is about working hard, playing hard and enjoying an active lifestyle."
