Azerbaijan’s proven gas reserves in GECF figures

Azerbaijan’s proven natural gas reserve estimates have increased from 1.317 trillion cubic meters in 2010 to 1.917 trillion cubic meters in 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

This figure remained unchanged in 2011, then dropping to 1.308 trillion cubic meters in 2012 and further to 1.300 trillion cubic meters in 2013.

The estimates continued downward trend in subsequent years, standing at 1.292 trillion cubic meters in 2014, 1.284 trillion cubic meters in 2015, 1.277 trillion cubic meters in 2016 and 1.270 trillion cubic meters in 2017.

The upward trend began in 2018 when the proven reserves rose to 1.435 trillion cubic meters in 2018 and 1.917 trillion cubic meters in 2019.

According to BP estimates, Azerbaijan’s proved gas reserves equaled to 2.8 trillion cubic meters at the end of 2019, as compared to 2.1 trillion cubic meters at the end of 2018. The country accounts for 1.4 percent of the world’s proved gas reserves.

OPEC believes that Azerbaijan’s proven natural gas reserves stood at 1.718 trillion standard cubic meters in 2019, as compared to 1.435 trillion standard cubic meters estimated in 2018.
