Azerbaijan’s historical trade in natural gas

Azerbaijan’s natural gas exports via pipelines have increased by over 6 billion cubic meters between 2010 and 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

The country exported 5.45 billion cubic meters in 2010, the increasing this volume to 6.29 billion cubic meters in 2011, before reducing to 6.09 billion cubic meters in 2012.

Azerbaijan’s gas exports were on rise in 2013 and 2014, standing at 7.68 billion cubic meters and 7.77 billion cubic meters, respectively.

It nosedived to 7.32 billion cubic meters in 2015, then continued to rise in the subsequent years to 7.62 billion cubic meters in 2016, 8.86 billion cubic meters in 2017, 9.19 billion cubic meters in 2018 and 11.84 billion cubic meters in 2019.

Azerbaijan is very close to delivering gas directly from the Caspian Sea basin to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor in several months.

The Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), the longest section of the system, has already reached its initial capacity of 6 billion cubic meters. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, has already started commercial operations and is expected to deliver 10 billion cubic meters per year to Europe.
