By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

SOCAR Turkey attaches great importance to research and development and innovation, which is a driving force of sustainable growth, General Manager at SOCAR Turkey Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation Co. Bilal Guliyev told Trend.

“In this context, we established SOCAR Turkey R&D and Innovation Co. in December 2019 in order to apply Petkim’s 51 years of R&D experience in the entire group.

SOCAR Turkey R&D and Innovation Co., which is aimed at providing all stakeholders in the value chain with innovative, sustainable, environmentally friendly and market-oriented products, catalyst and digital technology, implemented important projects in a very short time. One of them is NEFERTITI project, which envisages production of chemical substances such as ethanol / iso-propanol from carbon dioxide by using solar energy,” he said.

Guliyev noted that this project will convert carbon dioxide and water into chemicals. “By implementing this project we aim to increase our experience in diversifying the use of renewable energy sources. I believe that NEFERTITI project will make a great contribution to SOCAR Turkey's medium and long-term sustainability and energy transition strategy.”

He pointed out that NEFERTITI has attracted great attention in the international community, and it will be among the projects to be funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program.

“SOCAR Turkey R&D and Innovation Co., was among 10 international companies in the consortium, which got the right to receive funds. We are very proud to be the only Azerbaijani and Turkish company in the consortium, which includes international partners from Spain, China, US, Ireland, Netherlands.

The 389,000 Euros worth budget of NEFERTITI project will be fully covered by the Horizon 2020 program. We expect to sign the grant agreement for the project on March 1, 2021. Afterwards, we will have 48 months to complete our project.

No investment tender is required for NEFERTITI, as it is a research project and a prototype will be produced first on a pilot scale. Planning of new projects will come to the fore later for the commercialization of the product and for attracting investment.

NEFERTITI Project consortium includes 10 companies, he said." We will work in cooperation with these companies. "However, he refused from naming the companies before signing the incentive contract.
